Lalitpur and Pokhara metropolitan cities have requested all community schools to reopen and resume classes. Lalitpur Metropolitan City sent a letter yesterday asking schools to start classes from today. City spokesperson Raju Maharjan said they have asked all community schools within the metropolis to resume teaching-learning activities.

The Metropolitan Office said it has already published the academic calendar for the new school year 2082 with the help of teachers. However, important educational activities like student enrollment have not started yet, which is a serious concern.

Due to protests by teachers demanding changes to the Education Act and other issues, community schools across Nepal have stayed shut.

Meanwhile, Pokhara Metropolitan City has also requested community schools to resume teaching from tomorrow. An official notice was issued based on a decision from the City Education Committee.

In  Parbat district, some community schools have already started reopening as the teachers' protest continues indefinitely. Because of the closure of public schools, many students have started joining private schools, which is worrying for community school supporters.

As a result, school management committees and parents have started enrollment campaigns and resumed classes to attract students back. According to the Education Development and Coordination Unit in Parbat, many local governments have reopened schools and restarted both enrollment and teaching.

Schools in Kushma municipality, Modi rural municipality, Phalebas, Mahashila and Jaljala areas have also begun regular teaching, said unit chief Matilal Chapai.

Earlier, other municipalities also issued notices requesting teachers to reopen schools.
