Former Managing Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority, Kulman Ghising, has moved the Supreme Court demanding his reinstatement as the managing director of the Nepal Electricity Authority, a day after the KP Oli government removed him from the position.
In his writ petition, Ghising has accused the government of deliberately targeting him by repeatedly seeking clarifications before the dismissal. His petition names the government of Nepal, Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, and the newly-appointed NEA Chief Hitendra Dev Shakya as the defendants.
The dismissal of Ghising, widely popular for his role in ending a chronic load-shedding in the country, has sparked protests.
Interestingly, the Sher Bahadur Deuba-led government had brought in Ghising in place of Shakya as the NEA czar.
Subsequently, Shakya had filed a writ at the SC against his removal. However, despite 32 hearings, his case remains undecided.
Now, with support from the two ruling parties—the Deuba-led Nepali Congress and the Oli-ledCPN-UML—Shakya has returned as the NEA head in place of Ghising.
