KP Sharma Oli, chairman of the CPN-UML, has described Maha Shivaratri as a festival of fasting, night-long vigil, and inner reflection.

On the occasion of Maha Shivaratri, he shared a message of greetings on Facebook, stating that Pashupatinath teaches the ability to channel powerful energy with restraint, the patience to remain calm while enduring suffering, and the practice of living a detached life by reflecting on mortality.

He explained that Pashupatinath symbolically liberates consciousness bound by “paashu” (bondage), freeing the mind from greed, anger, attachment, and ego, allowing it to become free, peaceful, and joyful.

Oli emphasized that truth resides not in external noise but in inner wisdom, and wished that on this day, everyone may discover the truth through discernment and ignite the light of self-realization.
