Kamal Thapa, chair of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal, acted as the ‘kingmaker’ of sorts during an interaction with editors on Tuesday.
Thapa said that Hridayendra Shah can be made the king if there’s a national consensus on the matter. Hridayendra is the son of the former crown prince, Paras Shah, and former king Gyanendra Shah.
He said this during an interaction with editors in the lead-up to the movement of pro-royalist forces, slated to begin on May 29.
He was of the view that if Gyanendra Shah cannot be made the king at such an old age, Hridayendra, aged 20-21 years, can be made the king on the basis of national consensus.
