Jhapa Transport Office Earns Over Rs 820 Million in Nine Months

The Transport Management Office in Jhapa has earned more than Rs 820 million in revenue during the first nine months of this fiscal year. In the month of Chaitra (mid-March to mid-April) alone, the office collected Rs 157.82 million.

A large portion of this revenue, Rs 696.225 million, came from vehicle taxes. The remaining money was collected from transport-related services and fees for driver’s licenses and vehicle registration. The office head, Prem Prasad Sapkota, shared these details and highlighted the significant contribution of taxes and service fees to the total revenue.

In terms of vehicle registrations, 9,954 new vehicles were registered in the district over the past nine months. By the end of the last fiscal year 2080/081, Jhapa had a total of 26,884 registered vehicles.

Among the newly registered vehicles this year, motorcycles were the most popular, with 3,236 new motorcycles. E-rickshaws followed with 2,549 registrations, while 2,345 scooters were also registered. Additionally, 579 e-scooters, 180 cars, and 176 tractors were registered in the district. Other vehicles included 168 jeeps, 108 buses, 93 electric cars, 52 trucks, 20 tippers, 19 microbuses, and 4 ambulances. These figures reflect a steady increase in the number of vehicles in Jhapa as the demand for various types of transportation grows.
