The government has endorsed an ordinance to revise proportional representation quotas in elections, based on the National Census 2078, and forwarded it to the President for issuance.

The ordinance updates representation for Dalit, Indigenous Nationalities, Khas Arya, Madhesi, Tharu, and Muslim communities by amending the House of Representatives Members Act, 2074, according to the latest population data, said Minister Jagdish Kharel.

Under the electoral system, 165 of the 275 House members are elected directly, while 110 are chosen through proportional representation. Political parties must submit closed PR lists based on the revised population percentages.
