Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa has described the upcoming March 21 House of Representatives election as a “compulsory vote” essential to keeping Nepal’s constitution on track. Speaking at a party rally in Surkhet, he said the Nepali Congress has played its part in ensuring a smooth election but stressed that the events of Bhadra 23–24 must not be forgotten.

Thapa emphasized that no citizen should lose their life to government bullets, and acts such as burning the Singha Durbar while masked must not be allowed. He accused some political forces of denying the past unrest and said the country’s politics has been polluted by coalition governments.

“Nepali Congress stands with a different vision and commitment,” he said. “We will cleanse the corrupt political system and make the five years from 2082 to 2087 a golden era for Nepal and its people.”
