Nepal recorded the arrival of 78,711 foreign tourists in September 2025, marking an 18.3 percent decline compared to the same month last year.
According to data released by the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), the number of visitors in September 2024 had stood at 96,302, while 88,680 tourists entered the country in August this year.
The drop in arrivals comes despite September traditionally being part of Nepal’s peak tourist season. Tourism officials attribute the decline to global travel slowdowns and regional factors affecting visitor flow.
Breaking down the figures, India remained the largest source market with 15,556 visitors, followed by the United States (9,679), China (5,237), Sri Lanka (3,115), and Bangladesh (2,230).
The NTB said it expects a rebound in the coming months as Nepal prepares for the autumn trekking season and major festivals, which typically attract large numbers of international visitors.
