Cracking down on consumer rights violations, the Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection has fined five business firms in Kathmandu following on-site inspections.
According to the Department, each firm was penalized Rs 10,000 after inspections conducted with the coordination of local bodies and consumer rights activists. The fined firms include Sumesh Glass Traders (Gongbu), Krishna Tile and Sanitary House, RN Traders, Universal Home Solution Pvt. Ltd., and Sirak Dasna Shop.
The action was taken under Sections 15 and 38(d) of the Consumer Protection Act, 2075 BS, as per Section 39 of the Act. In addition to the fines, 11 other firms were issued general directives to improve compliance.
The Department said market inspections are being carried out regularly across the country, even on non-public holidays, to ensure fair trade practices and protect consumer interests.
