Senior Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala held discussions with Central Working Committee members, district party presidents, and senior lawyers close to him. During the meeting, he repeated his commitment to keeping the party united.

The meeting took place on Monday at his liaison office in Bishalnagar. Dr. Koirala said he is fully dedicated to leading the party in a united way. He said he is in regular talks with leaders from all groups to stop any possible split in the party, even if it costs him personally.

“I am constantly talking with the party president, the acting president, and the general secretaries,” Koirala said. “I have clearly told them that the party must not be divided. There is no chance of a split. You should also work toward unity and not feel discouraged.”

Legal experts at the meeting said that according to the party statute, only the Central Working Committee has the right to call a Special General Convention. They said the convention called by the general secretaries has no legal basis and cannot take decisions about changing the party leadership.

Participants asked Dr. Koirala to continue talks between both sides and take a strong role in protecting party unity.

Those present at the meeting included Vice President Dhanraj Gurung, Deputy General Secretaries Badri Pandey and Jiban Pariyar, central members Bal Bahadur KC and Minendra Rijal, and senior lawyers Sher Bahadur KC, Yogendra Adhikari, and Upendra Keshari Neupane.
