The Nepali Communist Party (NCP) has postponed its “Grand Party Unity Message Assembly” that was scheduled for Monday. The programme was called off because party coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal could not attend due to his prior commitment to a central committee oath-taking ceremony.
The event, organised by the party’s Udayapur district committee, was part of a series of assemblies held across the country to promote party unity. The Udayapur programme was planned for January 12, and all preparations had been completed.
“Everything was ready, but we were informed at the last minute that the coordinator could not come because of central-level duties, so we had to postpone the programme,” said task force member Dron Paudel (Niraj).
Paudel added that extensive preparations were made at Democratic (People’s) Chowk in Gaighat Bazaar, including stage setup, village publicity campaigns, rallies, tableaux, and march-pasts. But the overlapping central committee programme forced the postponement.
NCP central committee member and Provincial Assembly lawmaker Smarana Pakhrin (Yoddha) said that unity message assemblies had already been held in seven of Udayapur’s eight local units, except Triyuga Municipality, the district headquarters. The plan was to hold the remaining local and district-wide assemblies together, but the coordinator’s busy schedule disrupted it.
No new date has been set yet. Triyuga Municipal Committee Chairman Man Bahadur Rai said the event would be rescheduled when both Coordinator Dahal and Co-coordinator Madhav Kumar Nepal are available.
