Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba held an urgent meeting on Monday afternoon at his residence with senior party leaders and legal experts. The party is facing a major internal challenge during the ongoing special convention at Bhrikutimandap.
This happened after General Secretaries Gagan Kumar Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma gathered many convention delegates against Deuba’s committee, creating a political crisis for the party president.
Deuba started the meeting at 3 pm at his Maharajganj home to discuss possible legal options to respond to the convention’s decisions. The convention has proposed dissolving the committee led by Deuba, and debates over party policies and leadership have intensified, putting both Deuba and senior leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala in a tough spot.
Sources say the discussions aim to explore legal ways to challenge the convention’s decisions, making sure any action follows the party’s constitution and legal rules.
