Nepali Congress Co-Vice President Dr. Dila Sangroula Pant admitted that the February 21 election results were unfavorable because the party failed to understand public sentiment and focused only on holding power.
Speaking on the 116th International Women’s Day at a Nepal Trade Union Congress Women’s Committee program in Kathmandu, she said Congress will now act as a “constructive opposition,” raising public voices from the streets.
She noted the rise of new political forces reflects a “silent revolt” against old parties and emphasized that influence is not determined solely by parliamentary seats. Sangroula stressed that Congress will now push for workers’ and women’s rights through street-level activism.
Highlighting the history of women’s movements, she expressed concern that constitutional provisions for 33% representation and equal pay are still not fully implemented. She called for increasing women’s participation to 40% in all state bodies and committed that the party will prioritize labor rights and fair valuation of work in future policies.
