Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of New Zealand, Winston Peters, is coming to Nepal on a two-day visit, on May 28, coinciding with the Everest Day marking the first ascent of the world's highest peak on May 29, 1953 by Nepal's Tenzing Norgay and New Zealand's Edmund Hillary. 

Known in Nepal as Chomolungma and Sagarmatha, the highest peak is named after its 'first surveyor', George Everest.            


During his stay in Nepal, Deputy Prime Minister Peters will pay courtesy calls on President Ramchandra Paudel, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and hold bilateral talks with Minister for Foreign Affairs, Arzu Rana Deuba.


According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this marks the first ever visit by a deputy prime minister and foreign minister of New Zealand to Nepal.


On May 21, Non-resident Ambassador of New Zealand to Nepal, Patrick John Rata, had called on Foreign Secretary  Amrit Bahadur Rai. The meeting focused on various matters relating to bilateral relations.
