The Flood Forecasting Section of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has issued a fresh flood alert for 35 districts across the country, including the Kathmandu Valley, due to possible rise in river water levels following continuous rainfall.

According to the daily bulletin issued today, major rivers including Koshi, Narayani, Karnali, Mahakali, Bagmati, Kamala, Kankai, Eastern Rapti, Western Rapti, and Babai could experience rising water levels. While most rivers are currently flowing below the danger level, sudden increases are possible, especially over the next three days. Communities living along these rivers are advised to stay vigilant.

The department has marked Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Makwanpur, and Kavrepalanchok as high-risk areas. Smaller rivers and streams in these districts may swell rapidly, increasing the risk of flash floods. The department has urged residents living near riverbanks to adopt high levels of caution.

In addition, 30 other districts, including Jhapa, Ilam, Morang, Taplejung, Bhojpur, Sankhuwasabha, Sindhuli, Ramechhap, Dolakha, Sindhupalchok, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha, Kaski, Myagdi, Baglung, Surkhet, Dadeldhura, Kailali, Kanchanpur and others, have been warned of a moderate risk due to rising levels in small rivers. General precautions have been advised in these regions.

The department has also recommended avoiding travel near riverbanks, staying updated with weather forecasts, and moving to higher ground if necessary.
