Columbia University in New York has agreed to pay $200 million to the US government. This decision came after the university was accused of not doing enough to protect its Jewish students during protests on campus last year.
According to the BBC, this payment will be made over the next three years. President Donald Trump confirmed the agreement through his social media.
In return, the government has decided to return part of the $400 million grant that it had taken away from the university in March.
Columbia was the first university targeted by the Trump administration for not preventing antisemitic incidents. However, the university had already accepted some of the government’s conditions earlier in March.
