Car Plunges Into Phewa Lake, Driver Dies

A 24-year-old man died after the car he was driving fell into Phewa Lake early Friday morning.

The accident happened at around 2:10 am near Gaira Chautara in Pame, Pokhara Metropolitan City-6. The car (registration number BAA 1582) reportedly lost control and plunged into the lake.

The man who died has been identified as Adit Gurung of Phedikhola Rural Municipality-5, Syangja. He had been living in Masbar, Pokhara-7.

According to Superintendent of Police Basanta Bahadur Singh, chief of the Armed Police Force Nepal Kalika Battalion, a rescue team of 21 personnel, including divers, was sent to the scene immediately after receiving the information.

The divers pulled Gurung out of the lake in an unconscious state and took him to Gandaki Medical College. However, doctors declared him dead when he reached the hospital.

Police later recovered the car from the lake using a crane and took it to the Ward Police Office in Baidam for further investigation.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
