The Kathmandu District Court has begun hearings against Amala Roka, arrested in the 61-kg gold smuggling case. Judge Balram Lamsal is overseeing the case, with a detention hearing set for today.

Roka, wife of key suspect Dawa Tshering, was arrested by CIB from Tokha last Friday. An Interpol diffusion notice had been issued in her name. She is also a former Maoist leader and owns Hotel Vienna in Thamel.

The gold had cleared customs at Tribhuvan Airport on Shrawan 2, 2080 BS, before being seized. The case was later handed to the CIB.

Dipesh Pun, son of former Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun, was also linked to the case after joining Roka and three Chinese nationals on a helicopter trip to Gosaikunda. His statement has been recorded by the investigation committee.
