Purna Bahadur Khadka, acting president of the Nepali Congress supporting the regular general convention, has stated that 885 signatories who were initially listed to participate in the party’s special general convention have withdrawn and submitted their signatures to the party office, addressed to the acting president.
Speaking on Friday while visiting the Election Commission to claim official recognition, Khadka said that although the special convention was reportedly held with signatures from 54 percent of delegates, 885 participants have officially retracted their support. The evidence of their withdrawal was submitted to the party office through the General Secretary, addressed to the acting president.
Khadka clarified that both pre- and post-convention signatures are in their possession, noting that 885 signatories among the supposed participants have formally dissociated themselves from the special convention.
The Gagan Thapa-led Nepali Congress, meanwhile, has already elected a central working committee through the special general convention.
