The United States has deported 69 Nepali nationals since Donald Trump assumed office as the 47th president of the country (January 20, 2025).
According to Ishwari Dutta Paneru, director, Department of Immigration, some of those deportees, living illegally in the US, had surrendered before US immigration officials and returned home on their own.
As for others, the US deported them to Nepal on government-sanctioned military planes—handcuffed and shackled.
Other details regarding the deportees were not immediately available.
Upon their return, the deportees face general questioning from law enforcement regarding the purpose of their stay in the US, how they landed illegally in the US, etc, before their release.
