World Immunization Week begins today with the theme “vaccines for all – a human right.” The aim is to protect people of all ages from diseases and to encourage the use of vaccines.
According to the World Health Organization, vaccines have saved 154 million lives over the last 50 years. Vaccination has helped improve child survival by 40%, and 60% of these lives were saved by the measles vaccine.
Vaccines help protect people from diseases like malaria, influenza, tetanus (for pregnant women), and HPV (for teenage girls).
Today is also International Girls in ICT Day. This day is observed every year on the fourth Thursday of April to promote equal opportunities for girls and women in the field of technology. Both this day and World Immunization Week are supported by the United Nations.
In addition, today is the International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace. This day has been observed since 2018 to promote global peace and cooperation. Leaders and representatives from 144 countries have supported the celebration of this day.
