US President Donald Trump has removed Mike Waltz from his position as National Security Advisor. He is now preparing to appoint Waltz as the US Ambassador to the United Nations.

According to the BBC, President Trump thanked Waltz for his service and appointed Secretary of State Mark Rubio as the temporary replacement.

Rubio is the first person since Henry Kissinger, 50 years ago, to hold both the Secretary of State and National Security Advisor roles at the same time.

Earlier, Waltz faced criticism for mistakenly including a journalist in a group chat. He is a former congressman from Florida and now becomes the first person to leave the White House during Trump’s second term.

Reports say Trump decided to let Waltz go early in a respectful way because his approval process in the Senate was expected to be difficult.

Trump had earlier planned to appoint Elise Stefanik as the UN ambassador but withdrew that decision, so the position remains open.
