The United Nations has called for an independent and transparent investigation into the recent violence in southern Syria.

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, expressed deep concern over the deadly clashes that took place in the city of Sweida in recent days. He has urged that an impartial and clear investigation be carried out to find out what happened.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), nearly 600 people have died since last Sunday due to the fighting between different groups. Reports say that fighters from the Druze community, Sunni Bedouin tribes, government forces, and their supporters were all involved in the clashes.

Volker Türk said there have been serious human rights violations, including unlawful killings, abductions, looting, and damage to private property. He strongly criticized these actions and reminded that all parties must follow international human rights laws.

He also emphasized that the role of state security forces should be to protect the people—not to spread fear. Türk urged all sides to immediately stop the violence and focus on ensuring the safety and rights of civilians.

The situation in Sweida remains tense, and the UN continues to monitor developments closely.
