Former King Gyanendra Shah has issued a video message on the occasion of the New Year 2083, expressing serious concern over the country’s current political situation. He has called on all sides to abandon politics of prohibition and revenge and move forward by keeping the nation at the center.

Former King Shah emphasized that the existing dissatisfaction and demands in the country should be addressed through dialogue, consensus, and cooperation. “Taking public aspirations seriously, we must not delay in finding constitutional solutions,” he said, adding that “mutual hatred, conflict, and revenge do not serve the nation’s interest.”

Commenting on the political and governance changes over the past years, he stated that Nepal has merely become a “testing ground,” and that changing systems and individuals alone has not improved the overall situation. He added, “We have run a lot in the turmoil, but have fallen far behind in the nation’s progress.”

Amid the prevailing pessimism, the former king welcomed a positive sign, the growing involvement of educated, tech-savvy, and modern-thinking youth in politics and governance expressing hope that it would be beneficial for the country.

Extending New Year wishes, he stressed that the path ahead should be one of unity and shared commitment, not conflict.
