American Eagle Flight No. 5342, a regional jet with 64 individuals collided with a U.S Army Sikorsky H-60 Black Hawk Helicopter, carrying three soldiers, on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 near Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C.
So far, 41 bodies have been recovered, with 28 identified leaving no survivors. Authorities have recovered all flight data recorders to investigate the cash. The FAA has shut down the low-altitude helicopter corridor near the airport.
The crash happened during a training exercise. Controllers had cleared the helicopter's approach, and the pilot confirmed seeing another aircraft moments before impact. Investigators are now examining flight data, air traffic communications, and whether the helicopter exceeded its 200-foot altitude limit.
President Donald Trump blamed the helicopter pilots without evidence, while officials continue their investigation. This tragedy has raised concerns about aviation safety near major airports.
