Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has fired back at recent pro-monarchy campaigns with strong words, saying the idea of bringing back the king is nothing but a fantasy. Speaking at the 10th National Convention of Youth Association Nepal in Pokhara, Oli didn’t hold back.
“Let’s be clear — the people of Nepal didn’t just remove the monarchy, they threw it out, head and all,” Oli said, using sharp imagery to mock those pushing for a royal return. “We already have a constitution, a parliament, a president, a court, and yes, democracy. That chapter is closed.”
His comments come in response to rallies planned by royalist groups on May 28 (Jestha 15), through which they’ve even claimed to place the king back on the throne. Oli laughed off the idea, saying, “Maybe they’ll build him a throne at home, because the real throne? It’s gone. Long gone.”
As chair of the CPN-UML, Oli assured supporters that the current democratic system is strong and here to stay. His message to those hoping for a royal comeback? “Keep dreaming because Nepal is not going back.”
