Bangladesh is set to witness the formation of a new government today as Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Tarique Rahman takes the oath of office as Prime Minister.
The BNP secured 209 seats in the February 12 general election and, with support from its alliance partners, achieved a two-thirds majority by winning a total of 212 seats.
The swearing-in ceremony is being held on a grand scale at the South Plaza of the Parliament building in Dhaka, with around 1,200 domestic and international guests expected to attend. President Mohammed Shahabuddin will administer the oath of office and secrecy to the members of the new Council of Ministers.
