Spain and Portugal have declared a state of emergency after major power outages. Since April 28, both countries have been facing disruptions in electricity supply.

The lack of electricity has caused problems in many services, including mobile phone networks, internet services, trains, and flights. Due to the severe impact, both governments decided to declare an emergency, according to international news reports.

Spain’s Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, visited the headquarters of the electricity network operator to understand the situation closely.

Meanwhile, Portugal’s electricity provider REN said that the entire Iberian Peninsula was affected by the outage. News agency AFP reported that all areas were impacted.

At first, there were rumors that a cyberattack might have caused the blackout. However, European Union officials have said there is no sign of any cyberattack so far.

European Union chief António Costa also confirmed that no evidence of a cyberattack has been found yet. Efforts are continuing to restore the electricity supply as quickly as possible.
