Sita's Birth Anniversary and Janaki Navami Observed with Public Holiday in Madhesh

Today is the birth anniversary of Sita, who is honored as a national figure in Nepal. People are celebrating the day with great devotion through prayers, worship and religious songs.

In Janakpur, the city where Sita is believed to have appeared, people are marking the occasion of Janaki Navami with special prayers, bhajans (devotional songs), and processions. A special event is also being held at the famous Janaki Temple. On this occasion and the Madhesh provincial government has declared a public holiday.

According to Hindu scriptures like the Ramayana, Sita appeared during the Treta Yuga when King Janak of Mithila was performing a sacred ritual while ploughing the field. She is described in the holy texts as an ideal woman, a devoted wife and a symbol of truth and virtue.

The government of Nepal has honored Sita as a national personality for her cultural and religious significance.
