President Ramchandra Paudel has said that there should be a strong focus on providing equal access to healthcare for all citizens.
Speaking at the 23rd anniversary celebration of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS) in Kathmandu on Tuesday (May 6), President Paudel said the government must work to ensure quality healthcare and equal access in line with the spirit of the constitution.
He stated that the country’s investment in producing skilled and expert doctors is meant to ensure equal healthcare access for the people. He also expressed happiness that Nepal is now able to produce capable doctors through improved health education.
However, he noted that despite progress in healthcare services, many health professionals still don’t get enough opportunities, leading to an increasing number of doctors going abroad—a concerning issue that needs to be addressed.
President Paudel expressed hope that NAMS will continue to expand its services, support innovation, and encourage research in healthcare. During the event, Professor Dr Sudip Kumar Bhattacharya was honored, and various awards were also distributed.
