Seven Arrested in Rs 26.3 Million Social Media Scam

Police in Dhanusha have arrested seven people for running a scam through fake social media accounts, cheating victims out of more than Rs 26.3 million.

Superintendent of Police Narahari Regmi said the suspects used stolen photos and names to create fake Facebook profiles. They tricked people by offering cheap deals on mobile phones, motorcycles and other items. Once victims paid in advance, the scammers disappeared without delivering anything.

Those arrested are Suraj Sah (23), Nitesh Kumar Sah (22), Roshan Sah (22), Sudhir Kumar Mahato (21), Amit Sah (19), Shyam Sundar Mahara (22) and Ram Kumar Mahara (20). They are from different parts of Dhanusha and Sarlahi districts.

Police have seized 10 mobile phones used in the scam, along with wallets and bank account details. So far, 187 bank and wallet accounts and 21 fake social media profiles have been found to be connected to the fraud.

Investigations are still ongoing, and the suspects will be charged with cybercrime and fraud.
