The Supreme Court (SC) has ordered the submission of additional documents in the fake Bhutanese refugee scam case involving Prateek Thapa, the son of former Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa.
The order was issued by a single bench of SC Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla on Monday, after hearing Prateek’s application challenging the decisions of the Patan High Court and Kathmandu District Court, which had ordered his detention for investigation.
Prateek, who was arrested on June 29, 2024, in connection with the scam, had filed a case at the Patan High Court against the Kathmandu District Court's detention order. After the High Court upheld the decision, Prateek approached the SC seeking bail.
SC Spokesperson Achyut Kuinkel confirmed that the court has demanded additional documents for further review of the case.
