On Saturday, people in all 50 states of America came out on the streets to protest against President Donald Trump and Elon Musk, who is the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOE). According to CNN, protests were held in about 1,400 places across the country.
These protests happened less than three months after Trump started his second term as president. Although many people have been criticizing his actions since the beginning, this is the first time such a huge protest has taken place.
People are upset about Trump’s immigration policies, cuts in government support programs, and the way he is dealing with other countries. Many are also angry because Elon Musk was made the head of the DOE, a department created by Trump but not approved by the Senate. People feel Musk is being given too much power in making government decisions.
The DOE gives advice to Trump on how to reduce government spending. Based on Musk’s suggestions, many federal employees lost their jobs, and USAID programs were canceled.
During the protests, many people held signs that said “Hands Off.” They raised their voices against the influence of billionaires in politics, the reduction of services meant for the people, and attacks on immigrants and minority communities.
Recently, Trump has also faced criticism for introducing a new tariff system, which many fear will make prices go up. Trump says that even if it is difficult now, the country will benefit in the end.
These protests were not only in America. People also gathered in cities like London and Paris to protest against Trump. According to the BBC, around 600,000 people joined the protests across the United States on Saturday.
