Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli arrived in China on Saturday, where he was warmly welcomed by the Chinese government at the start of his five-day official visit. He is scheduled to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping this evening during his participation in the 25th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit .
This is Oli’s second visit to China within a year, following his December 2024 trip visit . The discussions are expected to cover bilateral issues, implementation of past agreements, and Nepal’s aspiration to become an SCO Dialogue Partner, among other matters of mutual interest.
The Nepali delegation includes Nepali Congress Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka, Education Minister Raghuji Pant, Culture Minister Badri Pandey, economic advisor Yuba Raj Khatiwada, and other senior officials.
On Sunday, the delegation will visit the Rice Core Planting Area in Huiguan Village, Tianjin, and the Zhou Enlai and Deng Yingchao Memorial Museum, followed by bilateral meetings with leaders of Vietnam and the Maldives and a welcome banquet hosted by President Xi.
During the visit, meetings with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharifare not scheduled. The trip will conclude on September 3 with participation in the 80th anniversary event commemorating China’s victory in the anti-Japanese war.
