President Ramchandra Paudel has said that the Madhesi community has played a historic and important role in every struggle and sacrifice made for civil liberties in Nepal.
Addressing a program held at Sheetal Niwas on Saturday on the occasion of the 7th annual anniversary of the Madhesi Commission, he said that the spirit of national unity, along with freedom of expression, harmony, social justice, good governance, development, and prosperity expressed in those movements—is the aspiration of all Nepalis.
“This aspiration must be embraced and taken forward; I call upon all sides to fulfill the responsibility of nation-building expressed by the Nepali people through the recent elections,” President Paudel said.
He added that Nepal is a multi-ethnic, multilingual, multicultural, and geographically diverse nation, and within this diversity, the contribution of the Madhesi community to nation-building has been significant.
He expressed confidence that the Commission, which has laid the foundation for the identity and rights of the Madhesi community over the past seven years, will further elevate its work in the coming days.
Acknowledging that certain communities, particularly the Madhesi community, have historically been deprived of political, social, and economic opportunities, he said the Commission was established to address such inequalities.
He noted that the Constitution has empowered the Commission to function independently and impartially, and that its recent report includes recommendations for protecting, promoting, and empowering the Madhesi community, which he believes provide clear guidance for resolving existing issues.
