Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has accused opposition parties of starting violent protests.
The protests began last Wednesday after Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, a leader of the opposition, was arrested on corruption charges.
President Erdogan said that opposition parties helped make the protests violent, which have been going on for six days. Thousands of people joined the protests, and police used tear gas and rubber bullets to control the crowd.
The government has arrested 1,133 people since the protests started. Imamoglu, who was suspended from his mayor position, says the charges against him are politically motivated, but Erdogan has denied this claim.
