Maoist Centre Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has expressed strong concern over what he calls “interference and manipulation” of bills that have already been unanimously approved by parliamentary committees.
Speaking at a meeting of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee on Wednesday, Dahal said that some bills, once they reach the House of Representatives, are either being dropped from the agenda or delayed unfairly.
“We worked hard to prepare and pass these bills through the committees, but they are being stopped or delayed without reason,” he said. “This kind of behavior must stop.”
Dahal warned the government not to interfere in the legislative process and demanded that bills be brought to the House as agreed. He emphasized the importance of key laws like the Federal Civil Service Bill and the School Education Bill, urging the government and the committee leadership to give them top priority.
He also said that the Nepal Police Bill must be passed only after detailed discussion and necessary revisions. According to him, the bill should respect previous debates, expert opinions, and the principles of federalism.
Dahal further called on all political parties to work together to clear up confusion about the implementation of federalism and to create a strong legal foundation for it.
Following his statement, other lawmakers in the meeting also voiced support, saying they would not tolerate any more unnecessary delays or political interference in the legislative process.
