Several police officers were injured during a clash between two communities in Birgunj’s Chhapkaiya area on Saturday evening, prompting authorities to impose a curfew to prevent further violence.
The incident occurred during a religious procession on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti. To bring the situation under control, security forces fired multiple rounds of teargas shells. According to SP Gautam Mishra of the District Police Office, Parsa, the injured officers are in stable condition.
Following the unrest, Parsa Chief District Officer Ganesh Aryal imposed a curfew from 6:30 pm on Saturday until 12 pm on Sunday under Clause 6(a) of the Local Administration Act, 2028.
Security personnel have deployed in large numbers across the city to ensure peace and prevent further escalation of tensions.
