Interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki cast her vote at a polling center in Dhapasi, Kathmandu, this morning, saying she had fulfilled her civic duty. Speaking to the media after voting, she expressed happiness and said, “My duty has been fulfilled.”

The election comes after months of political instability following the “Gen Z Movement”, which led to the fall of the government led by former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and the dissolution of the House of Representatives. Karki was later appointed head of the interim government.

Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari said all arrangements had been made to ensure a free, fair, transparent, and peaceful election, urging voters to participate confidently.

A total of 18.9 million voters are deciding the fate of 6,541 candidates competing for 275 parliamentary seats. Security has been tightened nationwide, with over 341,000 security personnel deployed across 10,963 polling centers. Election officials expect preliminary results of the direct seats within 24 hours after vote counting begins.
