Prime Minister Sushila Karki has clarified that the primary responsibility for controlling corruption lies with the government and the executive branch.

Addressing the 35th Foundation Day of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), Prime Minister Karki noted that despite sufficient structures, legal frameworks, and policy arrangements to control corruption in the country, the expected results have not been achieved.

“Until we stop looking toward separate institutions for controlling corruption instead of focusing on the executive, we cannot bring the reforms we desire within ourselves,” she said.

She emphasized that heads of all agencies and offices must take responsibility for corruption and bribery occurring within their institutions. She stated that a sense of responsibility, awareness, and commitment is essential among civil servants, political leaders, and all stakeholders for effective corruption control.

Prime Minister Karki also highlighted the September 23–24 protest led by Gen Z youth as a fundamental demand for good governance and corruption control, and stated that the current government has prioritized citizen-friendly administration and institutional reforms based on that foundation.
