Speaking on Saturday on Brian Tyler Cohen’s “No Lie” podcast, Obama strongly objected to a controversial video recently posted on President Trump’s Truth Social account. The video depicted former President Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama as monkeys.

Although the video drew widespread criticism from leaders of both political parties, Trump refused to apologize. The White House claimed the content had been posted due to a staff “error” and later removed it. “I think it’s important to recognize that most Americans find this kind of behavior deeply disturbing,” Obama said.

During the interview, Cohen also expressed concern over the decline in political discourse and the administration’s labeling of two American citizens killed during an immigration enforcement operation in Minneapolis as “domestic terrorists.” In response, Obama said such language is often used as a “distraction,” adding that most citizens still believe in decency, civility, and compassion.

“There’s a kind of spectacle going on right now on social media and television,” Obama said. “People who once believed that the office deserved dignity and respect now show no sense of shame. That dignity is gone.”

Obama further remarked that since Republicans gained control of Congress, they have institutionalized little beyond the “One Big, Beautiful Bill.” He criticized heavy spending on the immigration agenda, tax cuts for the wealthy, and efforts to roll back established norms and laws, calling it “the easy part.”

Reflecting on his own presidency, Obama added, “When I was president, I could have issued unilateral orders to withhold funds from states that didn’t vote for me or send the military to threaten governors. But that would have gone against how our democracy works. Just because our job is harder doesn’t mean we should be discouraged.” (ANI)
