The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) experienced a significant decline on Sunday, shedding 30.02 points to close at 2,566.09. The market opened at 2,596.12 and continued to slide throughout the trading session, hitting a low of 2,561.39 in the last 33 minutes before a slight recovery in the final minutes.
All 13 sectors ended the day in negative territory. Life insurance and non-life insurance sectors were the hardest hit, losing 174.95 points and 146.36 points, respectively. The sensitive index, which tracks the performance of ‘A’ class companies, also fell by 5.90 points. Daily turnover decreased to Rs 4.90 billion from Friday’s Rs 5.41 billion, indicating cautious trading among investors.
Among individual companies, 222 recorded losses while 28 posted gains. Union Hydropower Limited recorded the highest turnover, with shares worth Rs 277.67 million traded. Daramkhola Hydro Energy Limited saw the highest price gain of 9.99%, while Unnati Sahakarya Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited emerged as the biggest loser of the day.
The market’s decline reflects ongoing caution among investors and a broadly negative trend across all sectors. Analysts suggest monitoring sector-specific developments closely before making investment decisions.
