The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) continued to fall on Monday, ending the day 2.07 points lower than the previous trading day.
Although the index had gained 12 points in the final minutes of trading, the overall weighted average price brought it down, and it closed at 2,962 points.
This slight drop came after a bigger fall on Sunday, when the index dropped by 18.44 points. On Monday, the market started off weak and fell sharply, hitting its lowest point of the day — 2,918 points — at around 12:38 PM. It then recovered a bit and moved up and down before ending with a small loss.
Trading activity also slowed down. The total turnover dropped to Rs 19.36 billion on Monday from Rs 26.57 billion on Sunday.
Even though the overall market declined, some sectors performed well. The Trading sector rose by 3.24%, Development Banks gained 3.04%, the Finance sector went up by 2.75%, and Manufacturing & Processing increased by 1.71%.
On the other hand, several important sectors fell. Banking went down by 0.89%, Hydropower by 0.50%, Life Insurance by 0.66%, Non-Life Insurance by 0.72%, and Microfinance by 0.33%. Hotel & Tourism, Investment, and Others sectors also saw small losses.
