Nepal’s Minister for Health and Population, Pradeep Paudel, shared updates on the country’s digital health projects at a United Nations regional conference in Bangkok, Thailand.
Speaking on behalf of Nepal, Minister Paudel explained how the government is working to connect different health data systems through new policies. He said Nepal is starting to link personal information with the national ID cards, and soon, health details will be added to create a more complete and easier-to-use health database.
Paudel mentioned that without connected data, making good health policies has been difficult, but this will improve soon. He also said that different government departments will work more closely on digital health.
In a meeting with UN official Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, Paudel talked about the technical problems Nepal faces in digital health and asked for more help and cooperation.
He also highlighted efforts to make civil registration more effective and inclusive, stressing the importance of quick progress.
Dhundiraj Niraula, Nepal’s Joint Secretary and part of the delegation, said Nepal’s work was praised by other countries at the conference, which encouraged the team to continue improving.
He added that the Ministry is preparing a new national population policy where digital technology will play a big role.
