Nepali Congress is set to hold a provincial-level mass gathering in Surkhet. This will be the party’s second provincial assembly after unveiling its commitment manifesto.
The mass meeting, scheduled for Thursday at Ghantaghar Dabali in Surkhet, will be addressed by Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa, Vice Presidents Bishwo Prakash Sharma and Pushpa Bhusal, according to Karnali Province General Secretary Niranjan KC.
The party has called on supporters from Salyan, Rukum West, Jajarkot, Dailekh, and Kalikot districts to travel to Surkhet to attend the event.
Congress believes the gathering will help build momentum in its favor across Karnali Province. General Secretary KC said preparations and publicity have been intensified, and a large turnout is expected. Vice Presidents Sharma and Bhusal are scheduled to arrive from Kathmandu, while President Thapa will travel to Surkhet from Sarlahi.
Surkhet is the home district of former acting party president Purna Bahadur Khadka. In Surkhet Constituency No. 1, where Khadka has previously contested elections, Bishnu Bahadur Khadka is now the party’s candidate. Despite his younger brother running in the election, Purna Bahadur Khadka has not participated in campaign activities in Surkhet. It is reported that following Thapa’s election as party president through a special general convention, Khadka filed cases at the Election Commission and the court challenging the decision, which has kept him away from the campaign.
