Nepal has said that when Least Developed Countries (LDCs) move up to become developing countries, it should be seen as a proud achievement that leads to a better and more sustainable future.

Nepal also stressed that LDCs need enough financial help and other kinds of support during this transition.

Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai, who is the Chair of the LDC Group, shared these points during a high-level discussion on Thursday at a meeting in Doha on “Building Global Partnerships for the Sustainable Development of LDCs.” The event was organized by the UN office for LDCs, Landlocked Developing Countries, and Small Island Developing States, together with the Qatar Fund.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Foreign Secretary Rai also met Devadatta Maharaj, the Managing Director of the UN Technology Bank, during the meeting.

Nepal asked for the Bank’s support to help the country smoothly move from LDC status to developing country status. Both sides also talked about the Bank’s role and possible areas where they can work together.
