Trading on the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) was halted twice on Monday following heavy losses, just days after the violent protests of September 8–9.
Within the first two minutes of trading, the NEPSE index dropped by 4 percent, triggering the first circuit break and a 20-minute suspension. When trading resumed, the market continued to fall, reaching a 5 percent decline and forcing a second circuit break.
As a result, trading has been suspended for a total of 40 minutes. The back-to-back halts reflect heightened volatility and nervous investor sentiment in the wake of recent unrest.
