The United Nations has declared December 21 as World Meditation Day, which is being observed today in Nepal by various religious, spiritual, cultural, and social organizations.
On December 6, 2024, the UN General Assembly declared December 21 as World Meditation Day. On the occasion of World Meditation Day, a 32-hour continuous meditation program will be organized globally.
Various events are also taking place in Nepal to mark the first World Meditation Day. The UN General Assembly recognized yoga and meditation as complementary methods for health and decided to celebrate Meditation Day. Meditation is considered an effective process and technique to relieve stress and provide relaxation to the mind. While ancient sages and yogis practiced meditation in ashrams, in recent times, practices such as Life Science, Vipassana, Om Shanti, and Patanjali have been promoting meditation to lead a peaceful and healthy life.
