The Nepali Congress Central Working Committee meets at 2 pm today in Sanepa, with the key agenda of settling the date for the party’s 15th General Convention.

Talks led by Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka to resolve differences between leaders demanding a regular convention and those pushing for a special one ended without agreement. Party President Sher Bahadur Deuba then held further consultations, signalling readiness to hold the convention before the next general election.

With growing support for a mid-term compromise moving ahead with a regular convention if the special convention demand is dropped today’s meeting is expected to push for consensus. Deuba has directed Khadka and Ramesh Lekhak to propose holding the convention by mid-January 2026.

General Secretary Gagan Thapa has also indicated he may accept this timeline if the leadership acts in good faith. One proposal under consideration is beginning the General Convention on January 11, 2026.
