Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker DP Aryal has defended himself in Parliament after being accused of wrongdoing related to his travel company, Sumire Tours and Travels. The issue was raised by Nepali Congress MP Ramhari Khatiwada.
During Sunday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, Aryal confirmed that Sumire Tours and Travels is his company. He said he is trying to earn a living honestly in Nepal and denied any involvement in illegal activities.
Earlier, on Saturday, MP Khatiwada had accused the company of sending thousands of people to Japan on visit visas over the last 10 years and collecting billions of rupees. He claimed that people who made money through such means were now sitting in Parliament.
Responding to this, Aryal said, “Yes, Sumire Tours and Travels is my company. I am someone who believes in working hard and earning through honest means. If anyone can prove that even one person traveled abroad on a visit visa through my company, didn’t return, and that we took money from them, I challenge them to bring forward the evidence. If not, these baseless allegations should be removed from the parliamentary record.”
Aryal also suggested that the accusations were brought up to distract attention from RSP’s ongoing protests. He reminded the Parliament that his party has been protesting for 33 days against human trafficking under the guise of visit visas. He said their demand for a proper investigation through a parliamentary or high-level committee is still ongoing.
“We are trying to build a better society. But now, those who work honestly have to waste time responding to those who make a living by accusing others,” Aryal said.
He also claimed that those making such accusations would go abroad themselves if they had the chance to get a visa.
During Aryal’s speech, MP Khatiwada raised objections, showing disagreement with his remarks.
